BENGALURU: E-commerce chief Amazon India on Friday said it would add 50,000 ‘seasonal’ or temporary roles to boost online demand for products, especially among those most at risk outside the public in the wake of the corona virus epidemic.

The 50,000 job role will be across its warehousing and supply network, and the move comes at a time when economic activity and e-commerce operations are slowly bringing life back to content zones, as the country shows less of a stagnant exit from the lockdown.

Amazon’s job role in India was unveiled during the layoffs of Jomato, Suigi, ShareChat, Ola and a few other tech-led companies over the past few days.

“Amazon India today announced that they have taken on about 50,000 job roles to meet the highest risk needs of people who rely on Amazon services, especially when they are out of the public eye.

The company said in a statement, "It will play a variety of roles in their fulfillment center and distribution network that will work with Amazon Flex as an independent contractor with part-time flexible work opportunities."

It will join thousands of other partners across Amazon India’s completeness and distribution network and help customers sort, pack, and ship and deliver orders more efficiently, it said.
